Facebook launches new exclusive app; Suyash Jain

You can now keep track of all your Facebook events in a separate application.

Every day, more than 100 million people use Facebook events to discover things they can do with their friends from festivals to neighborhood fairs and nightlife. With hundreds of millions of events shared on Facebook every year, the fear of missing out is becoming a thing of the past. Facebook on Friday released a mobile app for finding local happenings to enjoy with friends. Events is a bit like a news feed that only contains events your friends have indicated they want to attend. It’s also a convenient way to search for things you might be interested in based on topic or geography.

Events is perhaps Facebook’s most unique, differentiated feature. While you can create profiles, share content and chat on tons of services, there’s no real substitute for Facebook Events. The Events app lets people browse for happenings based on factors such as location or interest, and to explore potential outing options with the help of interactive maps. Plans made in Events are organized on a calendar and shared back to Facebook friends.

California-based Facebook has been building a family of mobile applications to stay tuned into modern lifestyles in which smart phones are used to quickly connect and share with friends or colleagues. Facebook has 18 apps in the App Store, plus Instagram and WhatsApp though some of those apps are limited to certain groups. Events are now available for iPhone users. It is yet to be launched in India and for android users.
