Sushant Rohilla, 4th year student of Amity Law School, IP university committed suicide at his residence in Sarojni Nagar. When brought to the hospital was declared dead. A suicide note was found at the place of suicide saying and I quote, “I have not been a good son, brother and a friend.” Team BBS has managed to grab some insights and detailed information on the same with the help of Akarshan Sinha. The insights are as follows:
1. The alleged reason of his suicide was that he was detained for a year and had to repeat his third year of B.A. L.LB(Hons) due to shortage of attendance, which is a complete sham.
2. This case is not just of shortage of attendance but of sheer autocracy and arbitrary decision making and mental harassment by Professor Ishita Rutabhasini (who now has resigned). There are a lot of complaints against Ishita and how she has been ruining student’s life with her clash of ego with them.
3. The reason of his short attendance was that he was involved in a lot of activities like Moot court and debate society and was representing our college and had helped organising a lot of events in college. Which was not taken into consideration by Ishita while calculating his attendance. Furthermore, he had an accident in which his foot was injured and was walking with a help of walking assistance stick and couldn’t attend a lot of classes. An example of Ishita’s vindictive behaviour is that Sushant was forced to go to various corporate offices to get sponsorship for a college event on a gun point that if he refuses to do so, would result him in getting no attendance.
4. Sushant was an extremely meritorious student who bought a lot of accolades to college. His physical attendance was 43% and not just 29% as stated by the college authorities in the press conference held on 17th Aug. The basis of the press conference was a complete lie and was tarnishing the image of Sushant.
Our demands as students and alumni of Amity Law School, Delhi was Resignation of our director Dr. B.P. Sehgal and our De facto director Professor Ishita Rutabhasini. Furthermore, we demand for transparency in attendance system and changes in our bylaws. Demands for resignation has been achieved. Protest has come to an end and we all shall pursue the further demands within college.
Sushant’s parents have also filed a complaint against Founder President of Amity University Ashok Chauhan, Professor of Eminence Dr. Balakrishnan, Ex Director B.P. Sehgal and Ishita Rutabhasini, on which action will be taken. Sheer case of arbitrary decision, mental harassment and abetment to suicide under Indian Penal Code.
Furthermore, we don’t have the copy of their resignation but the contents of the resignation letter are as follows:
1. Dr. B.P. Sehgal
‘ I, Prof. B.P. Seghal, the Director of Amity Law School Delhi considering the sentiments of my students hereby resign from the post of the Director.’
The letter all of us were waiting for
2. ISHEETA RUTABHASINI
‘ THOUGH I HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG WITH ANY STUDENT, THOUGH I HAVE ALWAYS FOLLOWED THE IPU AND BCI REGULATIONS, BUT CONSIDERING THE SENTIMENTS OF THE STUDENTS AND TO PACIFY THEM, I HEREBY RESIGN.’
No apology for whatever happened, no sense of shame and a complete egoistic behaviour gives you the idea about the duo.
Team BBS supports the demands of the students of Amity Law School. Do you?
